White Orchids

White orchids don’t have Instagram accounts,

much less fake ones posed in a pitcher for my cats to chew on.

Still, I wondered yesterday if they long to be noticed

and find it insufferable to go days at a time

without a single soul snapping their picture.

If you really think about it,

it’s not so silly a thought.

That flowers depend on us to fulfill their purpose

and call us to them like bees

to propagate their beauty.

To this end,

I will set aside ten minutes every day

To find a new flower to follow;

scroll through its proverbial albums,

steal a photo that is sure to get the most views

and share it with the world.
